Low-Fat and Low-Calorie Alternatives for Meals

Barbecued Ribs: A plate of country-style ribs or spareribs can contain almost 50 grams of fat. But you can make a lean boneless pork dinner by using pork loin or a boneless chop and slicing off the visible fat. Cut it into thick strips and slather it with all the barbecue sauce you want. (A quarter-cup of barbeque sauce has only 1 gram of fat.) Grill them for 20 minutes, turning occasionally, and you are ready to go.

Clams, Oysters, and Lobsters: People always think that these seafoods are bad for them. But actually, they have only 1 or 2 grams of fat per serving. The problem is the sea of butter most people have them swimming in. Instead of butter, use cocktail sauce. Or even better yet, put a drop of hot pepper sauce on each bite. When putting clams over pasta, use a light tomato sauce instead of fatty oil-and-clam-juice white sauce.

Crab Cakes: Whatever it is, if you fry it in a half inch of oil, it is going to be fatty. But crab cakes don't have to be. By simply using no-stick cooking spray and egg whites instead of whole eggs, you can easily cut the fat in 1 serving from 12 grams to only 2.
